Brown vs. Board of Education
In Summerton, North Carolina there was a district that white students had the ability to ride school buses to their own white school while the blacks had to walk to school with no buses. Many people brought this to attention in court cases but where all ruled down because the whites had to pay taxes, as well as the blacks also had to. According to the jury the blacks did not pay as much taxes as the whites did which would not fund them a single bus. The defendants pleaded that this was unconstitutional because it was discrimination against their race.
In the late 40's Thurgood Marshall an attorney sued the county and had no success. The NAACP later came back that next year and told the local families that they would help them. They then changed everything from unequal education and transportation opportunities to all equal for both black and whites. This means that all schools must be equal but not segregated. At this same time other cases came to the courts for the problems of desegregation, after all the cases segregation and discrimination was illegal and named unconstitutional.
